The International Film Workshop Budapest 2008 winter

The International Film Workshop Budapest was holding on 1st - 7th of December 2008 where Polish, Czech, Slovakian and Hungarian filmmakers were participating. Young filmmakers: participated 30 people.
Organizers: 4 persons
Lecturers, teachers: 3 person
Visitors: 50 persons
The films that we created during the workshop were shown at Artkatakomba, Budapest for 50 viewers.

We provided cost and board for free for all the participants, we also give cameras and staff and film-studio (where they could cut the films with 4 computer and programs.

The aim was that young filmmakers coming by different countries make films together. The aim of the workshop was to bring together young filmmakers from visegrad countries in order to get to know each other, make films in coproduction and work alongside the others. This aim we achieved very well. Last but not least we produced some 4 short films.

The first day we had a communication-training to configure 4 film-maker working group. These international groups worked together during the next days. This year the theme of the films was Love Story in Budapest, so every group had to create a short film about these theme.

First exercise was writing film scripts. The proviso was that it had to be realisably, so we worked on them until it become that. After we started to realize the films.

The other important aim was to get to know each other, so we had film-clubs at the nights, and we had a one day trip to Szentendre, a cultural village, close to Budapest.

That is also important for us to shoot as many as possible road movies in these countries and bring them to the Hungarian public. So the Hungarian-youth can get to know the other countries cultural-natural values. We decided to work on it more in the next year.

1st partner of us came from Brno (Czech Republic) Luzánky - SVČ; Studio Lávka, lead by Miroslav Obratil. 2nd partner of us was the Fundacja "Filmowiec", Poznan (Poland) lead by Katarzyna Ueberhn. 3rd parter came from Komárno (Slovak Republic) the organization SZMAFF managed by Molnár Csaba. The participants of the Hungarian group were selected from School of Ház a Réten Egyesület in Hungary.

All the partners sent 4-6 youths to Hungary for making new short films. Budapest is the most interesting city in Hungary, so it is idealistic for young people. We believe that is a good way to get to know each other lifestyle and culture. This is also a cultural exchange between the 4 country witch could facilitate more activities and product. All the participants felt that we have similar past and present and we have very close situations in the field of culture, financing and plans. We are expected strengthened inter-organizational relationships and communication as a result of the project. This should be a good continuation for later co-operative work, exchanging experiences and the establishment of a workshop of young film pros.

We definitely hope that coo production opportunities will open up for us. We would like to bring the Visegrad 4 countries' film culture closer to youth. We also look forward to be got invited to festivals by Visegrad countries. We’d like to make Visegrad 4 idea more popular by the means of film making.

In every year the media is interested in our workshop, specially the finalized films. The TV channels are looking for the new talented filmmakers, so they come to the workshop for a day and make reports about the work. The Fix TV made reports about the workshop, the City Tv – like in last year – will screen the movies. All of the partners will write article about the workshop and put it in their website (www.filmowiec.org.pl, www.luzanky.cz, www.diakfilmszemle.hu).
