The Film workshop in Balatonalmadi 2007 summer

The Film workshop in Balatonalmadi 2007 was holding on 25th of June till 1st of July 2007 where Polish, Czech, Slovakian and Hungarian filmmakers were participating.
Young filmmakers: participated 40 people.
Organizers: 4 persons
Lecturers, teachers: 3 person
Visitors: 50 persons

The films that we created during the workshop were shown at the local cultural house at the and of the program for 70 viewers.

We provided cost and board for free for all the participants, we also give cameras and staff and film-studio (where they could cut the films with 4 computer and programs. We also paid the travelling cost in Hungary for all the invited gests.

The aim was that young filmmakers coming by different countries make films together so the second day we had a psycho-training to configure 4 film-maker working group. These international groups worked together during the next four day.

First exercise was writing film scripts. These were estimated by László Nádasdy (camera-man and director) and Gábor Merza (independent filmmaker) The proviso was that it had to be realisably, so we worked on them until it become that. After we started to realize the films. In the meantime the international leaders give us sound-technique practice, lightening-technique practice and dramaturgy course.

We teach the participants how to use the editing program.

The other important aim was to get to know each other, so we had film-clubs there we screened the films that the participants made at home. The clubs were open for public and held in the Library of the village so residents of the place could also come and watch.

Other days we went sailing to discover Balaton-lake to Tihany and Veszprém City.

The aim of the workshop was to bring together young filmmakers from visegrad countries in order to get to know each other, make films in coproduction and work alongside the others. This aim we achieved very well. Last but not least we produced some (6) short films. We only expected 4 pieces but the participants had more ideas and more capacity, so they made other two films. (See the CD attached.) We think it will be strengthened inter-organisational relationships and communication as a result of the project. This was a good start for later co-operative work, exchanging experiences and the establishment of a workshop of young film pros.

The cooproduction opportunities going to open up for us. We would like to achive to have more films produced not only in workshops but also on usual way. We were invited to festivals by Visegrad coutries.

That is also important for us to shoot as many as possible road movies in these countries and bring them to the Hungarian public. So the Hungarian-youth can get to know the other countries cultural-natural values. We decided to work on it more in the next year.

1st partner of us came from Brno (Czech Republic) Art School, lead by Miroslav Obratil. 2nd partner of us was the Film School of Poznan (Poland) lead by Katarzyna Ueberhn. 3rd parter came from Komárno (Slovak Republic) the organization SZMAFF managed by Miroslav Zselinszky. The participants of the Hungarian group were selected from the Student Film Festival in Hungary.

All the partners sent 4-6 youths to Hungary for making new short films. Balaton is one of the most beautiful side of Hungary so they could see the natural countryside and the people who live in this village. We believe that is a good way to get to know each other lifestyle and culture. This is also a cultural exchange between the 4 country witch could facilitate more activities and product. All the participants felt that we have similar past and present and we have very close situations in the field of culture, financing and plans.
